It's funny how quickly technology progresses. These days, if you buy a smartphone (which i just did) you're pretty much guaranteed that the thing will be mostly obsolete within 3 to 5 years. Computers that were top of the line 6 or 7 years ago can barely chug their way across the internet.
This sense of outdatedness certainly isn't new. I can recall comparing my Commodore 64 to a my friend's Vic 20. Side by side, there was no comparison. For example, his machine ran off an old tape drive (i.e. cassette), while ours used a then top of the line disc drive. The discs could store far more than the tapes ever could.
This sort of thing has existed for centuries, beyond computer technology. It's just increased because things have gotten smaller & faster.
The first real piece of technology that i remember getting my hands on was an LED calculator. I think i was 7 years old when i got one for Christmas. Inevitably, it ended up getting dropped in the toilet eventually & that was then end of that.
There will, of course come a day when someone will snicker & say, "computers??? who the heck uses computers?!?". Of course they'll say it with telepathy.
